He is not a picky eater, when asked what food he dislikes he answered “none”.He mentioned his ideal type as someone who is innocent, kind-hearted, good at cooking, has a glamorous figure, listens to him well, and doesn’t pay attention to age.He is also a fan of dancer and choreographer Lyle Beniga.
He mentioned Chris Brown as his favorite musician and his role model. In a radio show, MONSTA X members voted Shownu as the member who can’t lie. He is famous as one of those ‘beastly idols’ thanks to his athletic build. He also appeared for a brief time in Hyorin’s performance of ‘Ma Boy’ in the program ‘I Am Singer’ in 2014. In 2011 Shownu appeared as a cameo in the drama Dream High when he was still a trainee in JYP. He was also active in a pre-debut group called NUBOYZ with future bandmates Wonho, Joohoney, and rapper #Gun. Shownu also became the back dancer of Lee Hyori for her 5th album promotions. Prior to his debut, he released an OST for the drama ‘Protect The Boss’ in 2011 titled ‘Now I Know’. He almost debuted in the same group as GOT7’s JB and Jinyoung. His stage name ‘Shownu’ comes from the combination of the words “SHOW + NEW”, aiming to ‘show something new’, it is a name suggested by the agency. He sang Rain’s ‘Rainism’ for his audition at JYP and got the first rank in the audition. At the age of 17, he passed JYP Open Audition and began his training at JYP Entertainment. He started auditioning to be a singer after watching his favorite singer Rain. Shownu was a swimmer until he was in the sixth grade of elementary school, but he stopped because his parents wanted him to focus on his study. 
His position in the group is leader, main dancer, and lead vocal.His family consists of mother and father.Shownu was born and grew up in Uijeongbu City.
